Quitting Social Media: Finding Peace and Focus

I’ve been off the main social media sites for a while now, and honestly, I’m feeling better than I have in years. Reddit was the last one I hung onto, but it got to the point where constantly checking it was just wrecking my mental health. No matter how many times I told myself to put the phone down, there I was, scrolling again, caught in that endless loop. It’s like these platforms are designed to pull you in and drain every last drop of energy out of you. In a way, they feel like cancer. They eat away at your free time, your focus, and your overall happiness, all while pretending to be the cure.

So I’ve decided to move away from these addictive giants. I’m done with Instagram. I’m done with Reddit. I’m done caring about what everyone else is doing and saying, especially when it just leads me down a spiral of stress and frustration. I’ve been trying to block myself from most news sites too because it’s always the same cycle of negativity, doom, and gloom. The next four years are going to be rough in the U.S., but I’ve realized that stressing over every headline isn’t going to change a thing.

Instead, I want to take a different approach. I’m trying out smaller, less addictive platforms like Behance. My goal is to make my time online more meaningful—focusing on things that inspire me creatively or help me grow. If I’m going to be online, I want it to be productive, not just mindlessly scrolling through feeds that only leave me feeling drained.

It’s also a chance to refocus on my own projects. I want to put more energy into my blog and other creative outlets. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed, but I kept getting distracted by social media and the constant noise. Now, without that noise, I can get back to what really matters to me: my photography, my videos, my writing. These are the things that actually bring me joy and a sense of accomplishment.

So, for now, I’m keeping Instagram and Reddit locked away, out of sight, out of mind. I don’t see myself going back anytime soon, if at all. I’m excited to reclaim that time and put it into something that actually matters to me.
